Carpetball History We think carpetball started at church camps in the Midwest. We've heard several competing views of who was first, but none that can be substantiated. For our family, carpetball started at Camp Lebanon in Minnesota. Carpetball has been played there for well over 25 years. The game has remained popular with church and youth camps. In fact, many camps say that carpetball is a favorite of campers year after year. We've noticed several people on the internet claiming to be the official this or that of carpetball. Carpet ball was intended to be a simple, fun, dynamic game. While we follow some simple carpet ball rules, we're pretty sure that the original inventors never intended carpetball to be a rigid official type of game. That's the view we're sticking with, and that is how we approach the future of the game as well. Another historical question is whether the game is called carpetball (all one word) or carpet ball (two words)? We'd say the two are interchangeable, and in fact, write it both ways throughout the site to make sure everyone is happy. We think that the game is called carpetball and it's played with carpet balls (which are really pool or billiard balls). Of course, if you want to call the game carpet ball you go right ahead. What's your carpetball history? Send us a note and tell us about the first time you played carpetball. We'd love to hear how, when, and where you were introduced to the game. Who knows, some day we might compile all your stories and publish a comprehensive carpetball history book.... or is that a carpet-ball history book? Do you have a carpetball table now? That is much more important than the history of carpetball. Don't make your family and friends learn about carpetball on the internet, let them learn about it at your house. Set aside some time to build a carpetball table and start creating some fun memories as a part of your history. So on to more important things...
