Choosing the Next Carpetball Player

When more than two people want to play carpetball (like when a group of kids discover your new carpetball table), you must determine how to rotate new players in to the game.  You should also determine how many consecutive games each carpetball player can win before taking a break.

Carpetball Rotations

Single line - Potential players form a single line along the table, the looser of each match is replaced by the next person in the line.  After 10 consecutive wins, the winner must go to the end of the line and two new players move to the carpetball table.

Double line - Potential players choose to join the line at one end of the table or the other.  When a player looses, the next person in line at that end of the table gets to move forward and play.  Part of the game strategy is picking the right line.  Do you go to the short line with the player who usually wins, or the long line that will probably have a higher turn-over rate, hmm.....

Tournament - Build a tournament bracket with all players and get started

Challenger's choice - Potential carpetball players form a single line.  After each match, the challenger can choose to take on the carpetball king, or go for easier pickings against the loser.  Each player can only play 5 consecutive matches.

Fitness fun - Pick a fitness task such as push-ups, pull-ups, one mile run, or any other.  All challengers perform the task and whoever does the most or is the fastest gets to play the next game.  Replace both players with the 2 highest scorers.  At the end of the workout, the person with the most carpetball wins is the champion

Family helper - Pick a chore such as washing the bathroom or doing the dinner dishes.  The first kid to volunteer for the task owns the carpetball table for the night.  All other kids must rotate turns according to another scheme.  Other kids can not begin to play until the chore is done, so they may want to help even though they're not responsible for finishing the task.

Be creative and come up with your own plan.  If it works well, send us a note and tell us about it.  We're always interested in new ways to control the inevitable crowds gathered around carpetball tables.
